Why do you do it and what does it mean to you? This is a question I have asked literally and figuratively to our guys many times. I know what coaching football means to me. I know what positively impacting young men means to me. I know what working with great coaches means to me. I know what leading an elite program means to me.
I also know that nothing in life is easy! It is hard to play a winter sport and still attend STA. It is hard to maintain academics and participate in sports. It is hard to balance family and all other teenage responsibilities. Making merit and/or honor roll is hard! Being a good son and sibling is hard! Off season training is hard! Section 6 Class AA football is hard! Earning an opportunity to play on Friday nights is hard! Being the guy that your team needs is hard! Being disciplined is hard! Life is not easy and many times is hard! I want our guys to choose hard!
Football is life. Ups, downs and everywhere in between. Choose hard this winter and spring. We grow as people and athletes through struggle. It will be worth it when you accomplish your goals. It will be worth it when you overcome adversity. It will feel great when you realize that you can, and will, overcome challenges as a fighter and as a winner.
Winners embrace opportunity! STA, Sahlen's winter skills sessions, upcoming chalk talks, 7 on 7 leagues and uppers camps are all opportunities. Buckle your chin strap and be ready to take advantage!
